Poll Results
“An average Zumba class can burn from 500 to 800 calories! You can of course burn more or less depending on your intensity and fitness level. Your Zumba instructor will work with you to get the maximum results… fast. Hows that for different! Better than exercising at home listening to some boring cd … right?” This is straight from Zumba! I belive that you get out what you put into it! So, if when you do Zumba, you are really getting into it, shaking your hips, jumping around, you are probably in this range for an hour long class, however, if you are half way doing the moves, and dont feel like you have really worked out, then you are not burning as much!
Do you burn more calories walking outside or on the Treadmill?
You answered correct! You will burn more calories walking outside! It is more work for your body to move over the ground that is not already moving but and even larger factor with walking outside, is you get hills!! If you want to make your treadmill workout more like an outside workout add a 1-2%grade and add inclines through out…

Running Groups
Want to meet your running goals? A great way to do this is to join a running group! Search your community for running organizations and with that, you should be able to find a running group! If you are like me, you like to have a little extra motivation to keep going on your running goals. I love to chat with some one while I’m plodding away at a long run, in fact, if I am running along side of someone who has a similar comfortable pace as mine, and likes to chat, I am much more likely to meet my running goals than if I were running them solo! Here are a few good keys to running groups.
#1-Find a large group, this way there are many different levels of runners and you will find someone who is running at your pace.
#2-Know your running capabilities and goals before you join and ask questions. This will help you in many ways, first off, you need to know what your capabilities are so you won’t go out with a group who is way over or under your running capabilities. I prefer to run with groups that have different level groups inside, such as, Beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups. Ask the group coordinator details about the group so you can find out where you belong. Example:How many are in your group? What is the pace ranges? What distances do you run and when? What is the course elevation like?
#3- Be open and available for conversation!! You will miss out on so much if you plug your ipod in and don’t even acknowledge your group! What’s the point if you are not going to meet people? You might as well run alone!! It is also quite rude to close yourself off when you are in a group situation! Imagine if you threw a party and some people showed up with their mp3 players hooked up in there ears and just plopped down on the couch being unaware of everyone else in the room! That just ain’t right! If you must have your music by your side in a group run, just put the ear pod in one ear, that way you can still be a part of the group experience.
#4. Don’t feel like you have something to prove! No one like that guy who HAS to be in front of the crowd the whole time and kills himself to do so!
#5 Join in on the after run gathering. Most running groups will meet up for breakfast after a morning group run or drinks /dinner after an evening run, join them occasionally! They are a blast and you will make contacts that will keep you coming back for more running thus keeping you on your running track!!
If you don’t have a running group in your area, start one! Its easy!! Just find a good, safe place to meet like a park, and pick a distance that you feel will appeal to a group of folks and viola! Make sure you are always in a safe environment! This is key! Do not ever go to meet people you don’t know unless you have a few others that you do know! Watch your back ALWAYS!!
I found a great running group this weekend, they are in Nashville,Tn called the East Nasty’s. Check out there blog page!
